This Madison, Virginia studio / garage / guest house was custom built for a client who is an avid gardener and who wanted a dedicated space for potting plants and creating floral arrangements, as well as an exercise room and separate guest house.
The exterior features reverse board and batten cedar and cedar shakes, stained with Sikens solid stain. The studio has an exercise room with mirrored wall, a kitchen, two bathrooms, two wall-mounted TVs, a washer/dryer and a storage room. The second floor is accessed by a 4-foot-wide carpeted staircase with custom red oak railing.
To clear space for the studio, we carved out large amounts of rock from the site and used that rock to landscape the shoulders of the studio site. We also installed large stone stairs leading down the hill to a future pool location. We installed driveway columns with lighting, various plantings, brick paver porches, and architecturally designed sidewalks.
